Yes, I don’t know if any god can possibly exist somewhere. Do you claim to know? What do you base that knowledge on? No god can exist in this universe as I have come know it, but there could be another universe with different rules. Not likely, not probable, but possible.
Player: so you and LoisL believe that it is possible that Thor is the cause of thunder and lightning
Lois: Not in the universe I know, using the logic I know about. What could be possible in universes I don’t know, I can’t say. I have no beliefs about any gods or any universe.
Do you believe it’s possible that Thor is the cause of thunder and lightning in any universe? On what do you base that belief?
PatrickD
I think Thor is the god of thunder AND lightning. Hence the German exclamation “Donner UND blitzen!” (thunder and lightning) Donner= thunder. Blitzen = (literally) ‘flash’. Used together to mean thunder and lightning
Lois
i think some people came up with the idea of Thor being the god of thunder and lightning. I don’t believe it and I think it’s highly unlikely that any gods exist anywhere, especially in this universe. But I refrain from saying I know, because I can’t know, and I can’t know the conditions in other universes, if any others actually exist.
“Do you believe it’s possible that Thor is the cause of thunder and lightning in any universe? On what do you base that belief?”
no because we know science behind it. An assessment is made on the specifc claim being presented before you in terms of the given attributes and character of that god.
You say you are agnostic to truth claims for the God of Thunder.
“no because we know science behind it. An assessment is made on the specific claim being presented before you in terms of the given attributes and character of that god.”
The non existence of the god Thor [or any other god] is an unfalsifiable claim. You may believe he does not exist, but saying you know so does not make it so.
A skeptic, I avoid notions of certainty and of truth. They are not part of scientific method, imo. I question everything.
@Lois; I did not mean to suggest I believe in Thor or any other god. I do not. However I accept the logical possibility, not the probability of his existence… As it is yet another unfalsifiable claim I don’t think I have any other reasonable choice. The origin of his name and attributes are moot I think…
)))))))))))))))))))))0))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
"Unfalsifiability
(also known as: untestability)
Description: Confidently asserting that a theory or hypothesis is true or false even though the theory or hypothesis cannot possibly be contradicted by an observation or the outcome of any physical experiment, usually without strong evidence or good reasons.
Making unfalsifiable claims is a way to leave the realm of rational discourse, since unfalsifiable claims are often faith-based, and not founded on evidence and reason. "
Yes so you are agnostic on Thor and all the other greek gods. The science proves it is false in that lightning and thunder have natural explanations.
Patrick D:
@Lois; I did not mean to suggest I believe in Thor or any other god. I do not. However I accept the logical possibility, not the probability. The origin of his name and attributes are moot.
I agree, that’s my position, too. Lois
“I accept the logical possibility”
logically possible that a morphic supernatural being is throwing down lightning bolts? You sir are a joke and the other guy is a close second
“logically possible that a morphic supernatural being is throwing down lightning bolts? You sir are a joke and the other guy is a close second”
Oh dear, this time an ad hominem attack and argument from ignorance* in the same sentence, well done! Nothing if not consistent…
Do yourself a favour, and look up the meaning of 'logical possibility", as it’s clear you really have no idea. You’re just making yourself look ignorant and obnoxious, again.
*argument from incredulity .IE I’m too stupid, ignorant or lacking in imagination to understand, so I’l just ridicule, rather than try to explain.
Not only do you know thor is possible you add thor is logically possible. Are you feeling ok?
Player. Not only do you know thor is possible you add thor is logically possible. Are you feeling ok?
I said Thor might be possible in another universe with different rules of logic. Do you deny this? Do you claim to know what is possible and impossible in every possible universe? If so, how did you come to this knowledge since you can’t possibly know anything about other universes?
I feel fine but I’m worried about you. Maybe you should see someone.
Lois
Loisl you are a struggler who cant even read a thread properly. If you did you would have noted it was directed to pat d.
We are not talking about another universe. The ancient greeks claimed thor and other greek gods, was an interventionist god of this world only in an explanation to the masses why they should fear thunder and lightning.
You say such a supernatural being in this world is possible and logically so.
Keep digging
Player. I still think you need to have your head examined.
Cant maintain your position on this? Good to see you stopped digging.
Player, Thor is a Norse god, not a greek god. It seems that your hubris is not based on breadth of knowledge.
Brontes is the Greek god of thunder. Lightning gets short shrift. There are hundreds of them, so ye gets yer choice.

Hey loisl . Is it possible that spiderman is real???
Spiderman is as likely to be real as Jesus is.
So far, we know Spiderman is a real fictional cartoon character. That’s as real as it gets.
Gullible people are very easy to fool.
