Existentialism

Begin with, as in why bother in the first place? There is no obligation to do so.
Then what are you asking for? I'm saying that the notion of authenticity is a joke. What if it is authentic for me to slaughter newborns at a hospital? According to this philosophy it would be bad faith to not act according to it. Even then, living according to our desires is equally empty. I have done that before and it's a soulless way for one to live. The same as some vague notion of committing oneself to the world. Because the more I read about it, the more it just all sounds like vague nonsense that doesn't solve anything. It can't even solve the problem of suicide.

Why are you opening up your circular arguments again. You keep showing a lack of understanding of what is being said, then basing your logic on things you make up.

I'm saying authenticity is a joke. That there is nothing to be true to because there is no self.
You repeated that already many times. I already showed you that your argument is wrong, but you never countered it.
Your desires and aspirations are not yours to begin with either.
This makes no sense either. You say that there is no self, and you say that "your desires and aspirations are not yours". If there is no 'you' how then can you say that something is not yours? It is a fake argument, Titanomachina. By saying that everything is fake, you are saying that everything is inauthentic. But that means that people do as if they are something they not really are. Your judgement that everything is fake is based that there are real 'yous'. You use a wrong meaning of 'being (in)authentic'.
Just because there is much fake in the world isn't a reason to be real (not like you can be, there is nothing "you" about you).
Oh yes, there is a good reason: living a fulfilled life. With all this talk of you about fake, you seem to mirror just your own stance.GdB, I only looked at this thread today, so had a chance to run through the whole thing as a single read. I hate kissing up, but can't help it, it's always a pleasure reading your commentary on such cerebral topics. I'll admit I started by reading the last couple pages, then with a few comments swimming in my mind, I decided to going back to check for "authentic" and found you've touched all my points with double the finesse' and depth I could have come up with. It's nice you still look in on us once in a while. Titanomachina I'll admit a certain fascination to your various intellectual struggles. I can even relate to some of it. My new dog has really brought some of these conflicts to the fore. Freedom for the dog, or the gold rule that your dog needs to be under the owners control at all times. The beauty of watching a hunter in action, the realization that we don't want it tearing up and killing everything on these 40 acres (and that neighbors property is off limits when I have Maddy with me.). Even the command thing, my much looser freedom loving approach, to the need for the Maddy to obey my commands. and so on and so forth. The conflicts are limitless - and sometime one just needs to pull back and allow pragmatism to reign.

Thanks for the laurels! Activity on this forum seems to decrease, but I hope I might post something useful for you once again.
