That’s good for overall standard of living but it ignores wealth, gender, and ethnic inequalities.
GDP is existing and allows to compare countries and evolution.
But, for instance, if you have a crash between 2 cars, it increase the GDP as they must be repaired.
If people are hurt, much better for the GDP as they are taken to hospital and all the consequences.
Less good for the GDP if people die, as it generates less activities.
These are the technical notes. They include a Gender Index, and many others. They show the formulas. They talk about external data sources, so it gets pretty dense.
Yep, they have various indices ( IHDI, GII, GDI…) but HDI is not adjusted for those things.
Yep. Lots of arrows and acronyms. It would be interesting to play with their graphics, see how HDI compares to IHDI, etc.
