Michael Hastings dies in high speed one car crash

Did this guy have a record for wanton recklessness under the influence behavior?
I mean it’s one thing to get drunk, quite another to be disconnected enough to get behind a vehicle and decide to race down a city street at a ±100mph.
Some people do it, but did investigative journalist Michael Hastings fit that sort of profile?

I’ve read that the majority of single car crashes turn out to be suicides. Don’t know how true it is or not. I have heard a few war correspondents say that they became adrenaline junkies because of their experiences.
