It's not Sci-Fi it's another take over of the commons

I found this on a Facebook sci-fi page. The connection is the analogy to Soylent Green. What is too often called AI is really people, writing stuff, chatting. That is being digested and will eventually be owned and controlled. And we will love it because we can easily pull an apple pie recipe.

Yeah, he makes sense. l remember watching the movie at a Drive In with my high school girl friend. She wanted to neck and I wanted to watch. She won.

Beyond that I’ve been working with Claude.ai - it’s a great reference librarian - being without an ego has it’s advantages, especially when trying to get into the nuts and bolts of philosophy and our self-styled Hard Problem - finally an engaged discussion that can push back with simple facts and sources.

Sans worrying about offending philosopher types. Still, its limits quickly becomes clear - its out to please me, its obsequious and patronizing and every time I say that to myself - I remind myself it has no ego and no knowledge of other egos, so it can’t be obsequious or patronizing since there’s zero motive happening. It is simply how it’s programmed. I can instruct it to play hardball and it will, which makes it useful, so the interactions are helpful for studying, but it isn’t aware of human nuance, and can’t engage in a serious discussion. I could not imagine letting it do my writing for me, because it understands ideas and where to find, but nothing about human connections.

Still, it’s wonderful at finding answering and sharing information. And is constantly reminding of those wonderful public library Reference Librarians of my younger years.

So in the end I kind of agree with Damien’s closing, it’s a tool. But, I’ll add, it’s probably too powerful a tool, and in the hands of our sociopathic billionaire pin heads we can be sure it will enable humanity to f.u. even greater than it already has this past century.

As if we weren’t racing to our collective demise fast enough already.

Fortunately, we all have but one life to live, I hope yours has been as keen an adventurous as mine turned out to be. :man_raising_hand:
