The temples were the ruling class. The Pharaohs were the bringers of love and joy to the people. They brought happiness and fairness, and protection to the people. Which put the Pharaoh on the side of the people and kept the ruling class from making the people unhappy. For that Pharaohs lived a gods life of wealth and power.
